Curriculum

The Veterinary Science Academy gives the student an opportunity to gain knowledge in the veterinary field in a professional atmosphere, prior to entering college.

Students will master the skills necessary for employment in the animal health-care field. The Academy offers a tremendous hands-on experience for the students, engendering work ethic, critical thinking, and research skills.

Core curriculum led by Academy instructors is also available.

While enrolled in the Veterinary Science Academy, students may earn college credits through dual enrollment and articulation with the Veterinary Technology Program at St. Petersburg College.

Studies encompass five veterinary assisting levels. In addition to the core veterinary curriculum, students operate and manage the school-based grooming and doggie day-care enterprise made available to the public. Proceeds are used to support and enhance the Academy.

Local business partners work closely with this Academy to enhance school-to-work initiatives through internships and COOP placements. Two student career & technical organizations are offered to improve skills and promote leadership and professionalism.

All freshmen students will be receiving a Vet Sci T-shirt for free. These are worn during football games and other fund-raising events. Additional T-shirts can be purchased during Orientation and during Booster Club meetings. Also, the Booster Club sells Vet Sci polo shirts, backpacks, magnets, and hoodies. These will also be available during Orientation and meetings. Polo shirts are MANDATORY dress for Tuesdays during the school year. We want to show pride in our Academy!
